Grammar Rule

Comma Splice

Joining two complete sentences with only a comma (a comma alone is not strong enough for this).

The Rule

Replace the comma with a period (.) or semicolon (;), or add a conjunction (and, but, so).

Examples

Incorrect

He was late, he missed the bus.

Correct

He was late, SO he missed the bus.

💡 Pro Tip

Commas are used for lists or separating dependent clauses, not for gluing two main clauses together.
